First Edition
Stiff printed wrappers. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 4to. Pp. [3], 4-128. Introduction by Brad Lapin. Illustrated throughout with black & white reproductions of punk posters. Notes & Readings. Bound in stiff printed wraps with a poster printed on front cover along with red lettering. Minor wear to edges; faint scratches on front cover; former owner rubber stamp inside front cover (please see below). Corners sharp. First printing of the first edition. A fine overview of the Bay Area's contribution to the garish and shocking DIY medium chosen by the punk diaspora the world-over to announce performances, record releases, and other information prohibited by mainstream media. Established newspapers, magazines and radio weren't going to pay attention to the vital activity on the streets, so those involved spread the word in their own way. Photocopy machines ("Xerox copiers" in those days) were put to use, often on the down-low at businesses where band members worked.San Francisco's punk scene was notably substantial and good. The poster art here reflects that energy, with clever avant-garde graphics, striking agitprop imagery, and lotsa black leather. This copy was owned by the publisher of Seattle's Real Comet Press, with her discreet ownership stamp on the inside front cover. In 1985 Real Comet Press published Instant Litter Concert Posters from Seattle Punk Culture - as the title suggests, the Seattle equivalent of Street Art.
