Book has been signed and inscribed ("For Joan and Alden / with love / from / Jill Krementz / May 12th 1981) on the first free endpaper. Author's initials stamped on front boards. Book is a stated First Edition with no additional printings mentioned. Book is straight and shows some minor shelf wear with upper edges sklightly tanned; lower corners slightly bumped. Dustjacket shows minor wear to edges and is protected with a Brodart cover. Interior edges of book jacket are tanned as are the two flaps. Rear of jacket is very tanned and there is a vertical area corresponding to the rear boards that show extra tanning. Top edge of text block shows foxing. Small tear on rear upper edge of dustjacket has been neatly repaired. The author has done interviews and taken photos of 18 children who have lost a parent. Jill Krementz was best known for her photography of authors for their book jackets and other publications. Gordon Parks did her portrait for this book. She's also the wife of the late Kurt Vonnegut.
