Softcover. Condition: Good. Take a trip through Alberta with Canada's finest established and emerging poets as your guides.Writing the Terrain is the first anthology dedicated solely to the poetry of the Alberta landscape and cityscape, by authors who have travelled the main roads, back roads, and gravel roads of this vast province. This collection offers a series of poetic journeys through Calgary and Edmonton, through the foothills, the badlands, the Rockies, the central parklands, and the northern boreal forests.Following in the Canadian literary tradition of "preoccupation with place" these are poems that demonstrate a response to the landscape and ponder its effect on the body, mind, and spirit.Featuring contributions by: Ian Adam, Tammy Armstrong, Margaret Avison, Douglas Barbour, John Barton, Doug Beardsley, Bonnie Bishop, E.D. Book
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good ++. First Edition. SUBTITLED : ` Travelling through Alberta with the Poets '. 280 pges - with a `first-appeared' list at the back. On page 193 Robert Kroetsch writes of the Heisler Hotel. It is my contention that the muse of every Alberta poet lives in the attic of that hotel. Even those from Medicine Hat, Burmis, Chauvin, Milk River, and Edmonton. The connection between prairie geography and artistic vision is here made apparent by Stamp who also wrote two pieces for the anthology. You might also recognize Miriam Waddington, Leonard Cohen, Sid Marty, Ken Rivard and Cecelia Frey. I was drawn to Rita Wong and Dennis Cooley. UNillustrated; but maps take you on a provincial tour. Cond : Paper wrapper is olive green. Front cover illustration is of an old leather traveller's valise. Verso both covers show the contents of that valise - things like moccasins and binoculars. Volume is tight, bright, square, and clean. Spine is fine. No names. P/O has marked margins just enough(8 pages) to be a minor annoyance - ELSE collectible !! Quote (p. xv) (Introduction) : " ' ._._. and depend upon a sense of the locale and history' of the Canadian prairie. `Whether these poems are accurate pictures of places or people is not especially relevant ' to Ricou. Rather, the ` fertile questions are how the poet has created the region through language, and what details of the region he has ._._._. ." Size: 8vo.
