JFK remembers being taken down to the USS Constitutio in Charlestown, MA, and that "the sight of that historic frigate stirred my imagination and made American history come alive for me". Kennedy's grandfather Congressman John F. Fitzgerald found the gallant old ship rotting away in the Portsmouth Navy Yard and in 1897 submitted a resolution to the House calling on the Secretary of the Navy to take steps to save it again.
