paperback. 5.5 x 8.5 inches. paperback. 24 pages. This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition held at the Grolier Club from May 13 to August 2, 2003. Drawn from the collections of Grolier Club members, the exhibition studied the work of over eighty female photographers. It brought together many generations of modernist and postmodernist photographers including Berenice Abbott, Helen Levitt, and Cindy Sherman. With over 130 photographs and photographically illustrated children's books on display, the exhibition showed women's contribution to camera art and documentation. This pamphlet is a checklist of photography from the exhibition and includes nine illustrations. It was designed by Thomas Whitridge and produced by Ink Inc. It was also winner of a 2004 Katharine Kyes Leab & Daniel J. Leab American Book Prices Current Exhibition Catalogue Award.

VG. near fine. hardcovers. no dj. no inscriptions or marginalia. delightful clean copy. From the personal collection of a dealer/collector. This is a superb celebration of 70-plus of the finest-looking books ever to have seen the light of day. Artists' books always contain art, and the art often serves as the primary reason for the book's existence. And the history of bookmaking, since the "Gutenberg Bible", contains examples of books whose typographic and design excellence is immediately apparent and beyond dispute, but which contain no art. Occasionally, the two worlds intersect and overlap, resulting in books as noteworthy for their artwork as their printing, as praiseworthy for their artistic content as their design and manufacturing. "The Best of Both Worlds" is a lavishly illustrated volume which explores more than 70 books that represent the 'best of both worlds'. This title features books whose pages reveal the best graphic work of the past century; artwork from the hands of masters as diverse as Braque, Hockney, Matisse, and Picasso - coupled with memorable texts from some of the world's best designers, printers, and binders.
