Encuadernación de tapa blanda. Condition: Nuevo.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Immediate dispatch from Somerset. Nice book in great condition. Pages in excellent condition. Very very slight tan to page edges. No notes or highlighting. See images. Fantastic book. About the book >.>.> Wherever and whenever embroideries are exhibited they always stimulate curiosity about their makers, their design and the skills displayed in their creation by the many now anonymous embroiderers. Who were they and how did they gain their skills? From where did they get their inspiration? Who decided the subject matter to be embroidered or created their designs? In the past, and even today, embroidered pictures of the Stuart and Georgian periods have often been rather patronizingly 'admired' for their 'na?ve charm', if for nothing else. When compared with the norms of painting, these pictures, in which figures are surrounded by outsize flowers, beasts and birds, are easily dismissed for their lack of pictorial perspective, thereby missing the ingenuity and skill with which different shades of coloured silks are juxtaposed, intricate stitches worked and materials of differing texture floss silks, gold thread, lace and spangles - are les of the embroiderer's art.
