Dustwrapper illustration by John Sewell. ***Very good in black cloth-covered boards with silver titles to the spine. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. Boards clean and unmarked. Corners sharp. There is a small unobtrusive stain to the bottom edge of the text-block, not affecting the interior pages. Interior pages clean. First few pages very lightly creased. No inscriptions. Spine tight. ***In a very good colour-illustrated dustwrapper that has corner been price-clipped. Edges of dustwrapper slightly rubbed and creased mainly at the head of the spine. No tears or chips. The dustwrapper is slightly discoloured and browned at the edges (Please see scans). ***204mm x 132mm. 223 pages. ***'This important volume includes one of Artaud's most seminal texts, "The Theatre and Its Double", and his play "The Cenci". Also included are appendices, copious notes and his essay "Seraphim's Theatre". Antonin Artaud was born in Marseilles in 1896 and died in Paris in 1948. He was an actor, poet and director. In 1927 he founded the Theatre Alfred Jarry with Roger Vitrac. His influence is widespread in the theatre today, notably in the plays of Adamov, Audiberti, Camus and Genet, and in the productions of Barrault, Vilar and Peter Brook.'
