Two classic plays. Tirso de Molina was the pseudonym of Fray Gabriel Tellez, considered the most important disciple of Lope de Vega. Of the approximately 300-400 plays he is said to have written, only 80 or so survive. Among those is his complex morality play, "El burlador de Sevilla", which brings on stage the now universally known Don Juan. Zorrilla's "Don Juan Tenorio", a play that continues to be performed today, is deemed the most effective successor to Tirso's masterpiece.
