In the 1990s the irrepressible Brian Johnston treated theatre audiences to anecdotes about his long career in broadcasting and in particular his much-loved cricket commentaries. This new edition of the collected stories from the shows, first published in 1996, contains new illustrations and all the celebrated raconteur's tales of his early years at Eton and Oxford and in the Grenadier Guards, as well as his 50 years with the BBC.

About the Author:
Barry Johnston appeared with the vocal group Design on more than fifty TV shows in the 1970s, such as Morecambe and Wise, Benny Hill and The Two Ronnies. He presented the breakfast show on KLOA-AM in California and then presented a daily show for many years on BBC Radio Sussex. He now runs Barn Productions and has produced more than 100 audiobooks, including the number one bestsellers 'An Evening with Johnners' and 'The Wit of Cricket'. He has also edited and compiled several books including the Sunday Times top ten bestseller 'Letters Home 1926-1945', 'The Wit of Cricket' and 'The Wit of Golf' and is the author of biographies of Kenneth Horne and of his father, Brian Johnston.
Review:
"What really sticks out his innate decency as a person. As Johnston points out, it is some feat never to have had an argument with all the disparate members of the Test Match Special box over the years, including the spiky late Fred Trueman. He changed the whole approach to cricket commentary on TMS, puncturing some of the pomposity that surrounded the game. In some ways this culminated in the most painfully funny bit of schoolboy japery with Jonathan Agnew when Ian Botham couldn't get his "leg over" the stumps at The Oval in 1991." Cricket365. 'If you're having a down day, don't reach for the pills or the whiskey, look no further than 'An Evening with Johnners' - full of wit, warmth and his legendary anecdotes... a must for cricket lovers.' Countryside. 'Every page is filled with hilarious memories, comical stories and anecdotes.' Lincolnshire Life.
