Deafinitely Awesome: The Story of Acorn - Softcover

On a cold winter day, a sad and starving orphaned puppy sets out to find his mom but ends up in the local animal control shelter where he drives everyone crazy banging his water bowl against the walls of his concrete cage. Potential adopters are drawn to the cute little puppy but reluctant to adopt him because he's completely out of control and just won't listen. Things are not looking good for the little guy until a volunteer offers to take him home for an overnight to give everyone a break. What she discovers changes both their lives forever.

Mary Motley has been a faculty member in Cleveland State University's Health and Human Performance Department for 40 years. Extensive experience teaching children honed Mary's problem solving skills so, when she discovered that Acorn was deaf, she knew immediately what she had to do. Learning to communicate with Acorn was a mission of love that combined her passion for animals with her love of teaching. Prior to bringing Acorn into her life, Mary spent more than 30 years showing her own dogs in both obedience and confirmation competitions.

Timy Sullivan has combined careers in animal welfare and journalism for many years. She has covered life-saving programs for professional websites and currently writes about shelter animals as a columnist for the Chagrin Valley Times. The former director of Geauga Humane Society's Rescue Village near Cleveland and co-founder of the PetFix Northeast Ohio low-cost, high volume spay-neuter clinic, she is now an enthusiastic CITY DOGS Cleveland volunteer. Timy lives in Chagrin Falls, Ohio with her husband Ed, CITY DOG Jack, border collie mix Rosie, and office cat Rosebud.

Jenny Campbell has been a freelance children's book illustrator and cartoonist for more than 30 years. She writes and illustrates the nationally syndicated cartoon strip Flo & Friends and has illustrated 17 children's books. Jenny regularly donates her time and talent to numerous animal welfare organizations. Her artwork graces the State of Ohio's specialty "Pet Plate" license plate as well as three animal welfare vans. She created the logo art for CITY DOGS Cleveland, the adoption program at Cleveland Animal Care and Control, Acorn's former home.
