When I began reading my grandmother's journal, I knew that my grandmother, Sadie Crowe, was talking to me from beyond the grave through her words. I really didn't want to hear all those things Grandmother told me, but she convinced me to start my own journal and trust in God. What I wrote in my journal was straight from my heart, just like grandmother suggested. However, the secrets I revealed could possibly come back to haunt me in the future. Hard feelings, hate, and misunderstandings might have a way of rearing their ugly heads for me as they did for Grandmother. As I left the farm to start a life in Washington, DC, I gazed at my husband seated next to me and then looked back, one last time, at the life I was leaving and the only connection to my soul mate. The cool breeze brought me a whiff of the wet hay from the field and smoke from the wood fireplace. As the buggy continued down the muddy tracks in the lane, I took another breath of air-not knowing when I would smell those familiar odors again.
