Andrew H. Hedges is an associate professor of church history and doctrine at Brigham Young University. He received a bachelor's degree from Weber State University, a master's degree in Near Eastern studies from BYU, and a PhD in American history from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Alex D. Smith, a historian with the Joseph Smith Papers Project, received MA and BA degrees in history from Brigham Young University and is currently pursuing a PhD in history from the University of Utah. His research interests and project specialization focus on the history of the church in Nauvoo.

Richard Lloyd Anderson is an emeritus professor of church history and doctrine at Brigham Young University. He holds a BA in history from BYU, a JD from Harvard, an MA in Greek from BYU, and a PhD in ancient history from UC Berkeley.

The editors of the volume have produced transcripts that scholars may rely upon with confidence. . . .
