Book Description Soft cover. Condition: New. During the Civil War, Maryland furnished 39 infantry, cavalry and artillery units to the Federal government for the defense of the Union. Over 62,000 loyal Marylanders, including over 9,000 African-Americans, served in these regiments or in the United States Navy and Marines. More than 4,500 Marylanders died from battle or disease. Some were fortunate enough to be brought home for burial, but many are interred in cemeteries throughout the country. These men and the sacrifices they made for our country have largely been forgotten.
