Seasonal Guide to the Natural Year--New England and New York - Softcover

Scott Weidensaul is the author of more than 20 books on nature and wildlife, including Mountains of the Heart: A Natural History of the Appalachians, Max Bonker and the Howling Thieves, and two books in the popular Seasonal Guide to the Natural Year series, and A Kid's First Book of Bird-Watching.

Weidensaul, an author of many books on natural history, offers a guide to seasonal natural events, such as wildlife migrations, flower-blooming times, and foliage changes. The emphasis is on when to go, not where, in the six New England states plus New York, which the author includes because from a naturalist's viewpoint New York has more in common with New England than with Pennsylvania. Directions are given to natural areas discussed, and some practical advice is added (for example, don't commence a fall foliage tour without motel reservations; use U.S. Geological Survey maps instead of auto-oriented state tourist board maps). Unlike most guidebooks, however, this guide does not provide specific information on accommodations or eating. This should be of interest to birdwatchers and others who take an active approach to nature. Recommended for public libraries.
