About the Author:
Syed Abul Hasan ‘Ali Nadwi (1913-99) was one of the most influential scholars and thinkers of the Islamic world in the twentieth century. He was a gifted speaker and prolific writer. He authored more than fifty books and hundreds of papers on history, literature and theology in both Arabic and Urdu. His writings have been translated into several Indian and international languages including Chinese, English, French, Indonesian, Malaysian, Persian, Spanish and Turkish. Syed Nadwi played a key role in founding and establishing several national and international literary and educational institutions including the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, World Forum of Islamic Literature, Muslim World League, Islamic University (Saudi Arabia), All India Muslim Personal Law Board and the Academy of Islamic Research & Publications. He served as the head of Nadwatul ‘Ulama, a premier institution of Islamic learning in India, from 1961 to 1999. He was awarded several international awards for his literary work including the King Faisal Award and the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah International Award.
