Presents an effort to examine and develop effective defense conversion methods, particularly for the US and the former Soviet Union, both of which are suffering from a half-century of investment in military facilities, hardware, and personnel, resulting in severe capital depletion problems. The volume consists of contributions by speakers at three conferences (culminating in a specialized symposium on defense conversion in February 1994), plus several contributions invited to broaden the perspective. Russian/Ukrainian perspectives are introduced by Victor Chernyy of Ukraine's Bureau of Defense Conversion. Annotation copyright Book News, Inc. Portland, Or.
