Late one afternoon, Margaret and her friends encounter Laurel, a beautiful swan who tells them all about Joona, the marvelous land where all suffering swans live. Laurel then enlists the aid of the children in her battle against Malcolm, an evil and selfish swan who wants to prevent any more swans from coming into Joona. This transparent morality tale is reminiscent of C. S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, though not nearly as sophisticated, complex, or enjoyable. Unlike Lewis's work, this trilogy will appeal primarily to young adults. A marginal purchase.
