Grade 1-4-- Patent gives clear, straightforward descriptions of the different categories of food--grains, fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy products, and eggs. She begins by explaining in basic terms how plants use and store energy. Brief discussion on a variety of topics follows: the difference between white and brown rice, which flowers we eat (broccoli and cauliflower), how cream is formed, why some fruits are seedless. Information is greatly enhanced by Munoz's many appealing, full-color photographs. Included are illustrated directions for making yogurt, as well as photos of groups of packaged foods with which children may be familiar. Brief chapters discuss fruits and vegetables, grains, meats, and dairy products.
