From the Author:
Why I loved writing this book
Someone has said that we don't really grow up all that much in this life, we simply grow taller. But why is it that some grow up to be cynical and mean-spirited, throwing toddler-like tantrums well into adulthood; while others retain a sense of childlike wonder, kindness, wit and joy?

To remain childlike, while letting go of childishness... ah, that's the key.

Jesus Christ said that to enter into God's Kingdom we must come as children. But what does this mean? I spent nearly a year writing and exploring this question and loved every minute of it. I looked back on the joys, pains and sweetness of my own childhood, gathered stories from my own children and other precious, funny kids I happened to meet, and then I observed grown-up kids who loved life with profound gusto, who danced their way into their second childhood.

As we parents love all of our children equally, I loved the process of writing all my books. But Still Lickin' the Spoon was by far the most FUN book to write, simply because I had a whole year to slip into the mindset of a child. To those of you who still consider yourself Grown-Up Kids (GUKS), I dedicate the following ditty that I wrote and sing to my own kids with a soft-shoe type melody.

Growing Up to Be a Child

Mud-puddle miracles, Doodle-bug designs, Bursts of fun with bubblegum, Oh, to see life as a child!

"I love you's" big as rainbows, "I'm sorry's" from the heart, A kiss goodnight, a bear hug tight, To love as would a child!

"Let the children come to Me," He said with arms flug wide. Don't stop me now-- I'm coming, too For I'm a child INSIDE.

I want to laugh from the belly, Risk playing a clown-- I'm giving up on growing up... Think I'll just start grow-ow-ing down... Oh, YEAH.

"This resurrection life.. is adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike 'What's next, Papa? God's Spirit touches our dpirits and confirms who we really are...: Father and children." Romans 8:14-17, The Message
