Dan Balter is the chief technology officer for InfoTechnology Partners, Inc., a Microsoft Certified Partner company. He works as a technology consultant for small- to medium-sized businesses and has worked with several different network operating systems throughout his 22-year career. Dan takes pride in turning complex, technical topics into easy-to-understand concepts. Dan is a Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST), a Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), and a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).
He specializes in Microsoft networking technologies, firewalls, VPNs, and other security solutions in addition to designing and implementing messaging and business solutions, such as Exchange Server environments. As CTO for InfoTechnology Partners, Inc., Dan has worked to implement an affordable continuous offsite data protection backup system for companies large and small.
Dan is a coauthor for the best-selling books Exam Cram 2: Windows XP Professional, Exam Cram 2: Supporting Users and Troubleshooting a Windows XP Operating System, and Exam Cram 2: Windows 2000 Professional, published by Que Certification. Dan has been a featured speaker at conferences across North America, including Advisor DevCons and Summits sponsored by Advisor Media and Windows Connections conferences sponsored by Windows IT Pro Magazine.
A graduate of USC’s School of Business in 1983, Dan has authored more than 300 video-, CD-, and DVD-based computer education courses, including instructional titles on installing, configuring, and administering Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. He has also appeared as a featured video trainer for self-paced learning courses on Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Outlook, and Intuit’s QuickBooks small business accounting software. Dan and his family live in the Santa Rosa Valley area in Southern California, near the city of Camarillo. Dan lives with his lovely wife, Alison; their 10-year-old daughter, Alexis; their 7-year-old son, Brendan; and their golden retriever, Brandy. When he’s not writing, researching, or consulting, Dan enjoys traveling with his family, swimming, playing racquetball and basketball, rooting for the L.A. Patrick Regan has been a PC technician and network administrator/engineer for the past 15 years after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Akron. He has taught many computer and network classes at Sacramento local colleges (Heald Colleges and MTI Colleges), worked as a product support engineer for the Intel Corporation Customer Service, and participated in and led many projects (Heald Colleges, Intel Corporation, and Miles Consulting Corp). For his teaching accomplishments, he received the Teacher of the Year award from Heald Colleges. In addition, he received several recognition awards from Intel. Previously, he was a senior network engineer for Virtual Alert support the BioTerrorism Readiness suite. Currently, he is a senior design architect/engineer and training coordinator for Miles Consulting Corp (MCC), a premiere Microsoft Gold partner and consulting firm. He holds many certifications, including the Microsoft MCSE, MCSA, and MCT; CompTIA’s A+, Network+, Server+, Linux+, Security+, and CTT+; Cisco CCNA; and Novell’s CNE and CWNP Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA).
