Review:
This 20th-century scrapbook for budding historians is a great trip through a remarkable century. Though it stops in 1996, the year-by-year survey is packed with information about advances in flight technology, genocide, medical miracles, wars, technology, and cloning. Coverage of each year is supplemented by trend pages that explore developments such as the resistance in World War II and feminism in the '70s. Also available are decade timelines, and biographies of leaders in science, the arts, government, and sports. Parents who love history will enjoy providing guided tours through these pages.
From School Library Journal:
Grade 5-8?This title offers snippets of history accompanied by full-color photographs and illustrations. Most years are alotted a double-page spread featuring two or three articles, and a monthly table that details innovations, entertainment happenings, and world events appears at the bottom of the spreads. Interspersed between the yearly information are features on scientific advances, fashion, music, and various trends and novelties. The writing is clear enough, but often the mini-articles are written in a "you are there" newspaper style that may confuse some readers. This book won't serve students looking for resources to support a research paper unless the assignment is about what happened in the year of their birth. It does, however, live up to its title and browsers will be more than pleased with its depth of coverage and selection of photographs.?Carol Fazioli, Cardinal Hayes Library, Manhattan College, NY
