Generally, the authors concentrate on the fundamentals of each application, such as formatting text in Word, inserting columns into an Excel worksheet, and re-sequencing PowerPoint slides. Most new Office 2000 users will gravitate toward the standard tasks described in the book when introduced to the software.

For each of the covered software capabilities, the authors present a graphic that encapsulates the concept at hand (such as a crane dropping information into a spreadsheet to illustrate the idea of inserting columns). They then show a series of screen shots, enhanced with commentary explaining how the task is done in the program itself. It's easy to follow the book's lead on your own computer.

Once in a while, the authors choose to omit relevant details for the sake of their simplified format. That's okay, but this book would be stronger if it included references to other books with more detailed information.
