PreSchool-Grade 1-Readers are shown the activities of a baby elephant in Africa and a polar bear cub in the Arctic. The large, easy-to-understand texts, with one or two paragraphs per page, should appeal to beginning readers. Unfortunately, the mixing of poorly drawn illustrations with photographs on every page is distracting and the artwork seems haphazardly placed. Both titles show an animal family making their way across the top of every double-page spread, adding to the confusion of the layout. Those same drawings are partially lost in the gutters as they reach the center. Even the covers are excessively busy. A nice idea, but one that's unsuccessfully executed.-
