About the Author:

JAMES CRAWFORD is a noted author and lecturer who has focused on language and education policy since 1987. A former journalist, Crawford served as Washington editor of Education Week. From 2004–2006, he served as executive director of the National Association for Bilingual Education. His books include Educating English Learners: Language Diversity in the Classroom (2004), the 5th edition of a widely used text in teacher education courses. STEPHEN KRASHEN is Professor Emeritus of Education at the University of Southern California. His books include Explorations in Language Acquisition and Use and The Power of Reading, now in its second edition.
