From the USA Today bestselling author of The InheritanceA Lasting Impression, and A Beauty So Rare comes an exquisite historical novel set against the real history of Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville, TN that explores the struggles of real people of the post-war South and the journeys of a man and a woman scarred by betrayal. Olivia Aberdeen, destitute widow of a man shot as a traitor to the South, is shunned by proper society and gratefully accepts an invitation from "Aunt" Elizabeth Harding, mistress of Belle Meade Plantation. Expecting to be the Harding's head housekeeper, Olivia is disillusioned when she learns the real reason Elizabeth's husband, Confederate General William Giles Harding, agreed to her coming. Not finding the safe haven she expects, Olivia is caught off guard by her feelings for Ridley Adam Cooper, a Southern man who seems anything but a Southern gentleman.

Branded a traitor by some, Ridley Cooper, a Southern son who chose to fight for the Union, is a man desperate to end the war still raging inside him. Determined to learn "the gift" that Belle Meade's head horse trainer and former slave, Bob Green, possesses, Ridley harbors secrets that threaten both their lives.

As Ridley seeks to make peace within himself for "betraying" the South he loved, Olivia is determined to never be betrayed again.  [Excerpt from Chapter 1]"...Settled on the carriage seat, Olivia drew in a deep breath, the first in what felt like five years. She knew it was wrong, what she was feeling. Because a widow of only a week shouldn't wish to dance a jig. But God help her, that's precisely what she wanted to do. Not on the grave of her recently deceased husband, of course--that would be considered rude. Just off to the side would suffice."

From the Author:
The setting of this novel, the Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville, TN, is a real antebellum estate that still welcomes visitors today. The Harding family, characters in To Whisper Her Name, lived at Belle Meade in the 1800s and many of the events included in this novel were taken from their personal history and then fleshed out in my imagination.
In addition to the Harding family, many of the former slaves who served at Belle Meade inspired characters of this story--Robert Green, Susanna Carter, and many others. In nearly every instance, I used the real names of the former slaves and the positions they held at Belle Meade. However, the characters' personalities and actions are of my creation and should be construed as such. After two years of research and writing To Whisper Her Name, I invite you to join me on yet another journey into the postbellum world of Nashville, Tennessee. Thank you, faithful readers, for entrusting your time to me. It's a weighty investment that I treasure and will never take for granted. Warmly,Tamera Visit my Amazon Author Page to watch 2-minute video vignettes filmed on location at Belle Meade Plantation.
From the Inside Flap:
"To Whisper Her Name has everything a fine historical novel needs: characters we truly care about, struggles that really matter, splashes of humor to engage us, and period details that bring the past to vibrant life. Ridley and Olivia both arrive with heartaches and disappointments tucked in their traveling bags. Watching them unpack those memories and make room for the Lord's cleansing touch is pure reading pleasure."
~ Liz Curtis Higgs, New York Times best-selling author of Mine Is the Night

"To Whisper Her Name will grab you and not let go. It's a beautiful, powerful story with unforgettable characters who face the unthinkable with honor while a captivating romance blooms where seeds should never have been scattered."
~Cindy Woodsmall, New York Times best-selling author of Sisters of the Quilt series

"Tamera has taken 205 years of Belle Meade history and brought it to life in "To Whisper Her Name." The mansion becomes vibrant again with family, the grounds alive with guests and staff, and the thoroughbreds once again are saddled and ready to take the reader on a rollicking ride!"
~ Alton Kelley, Executive Director, Belle Meade Plantation, Nashville, TN

"To Whisper Her Name has everything I love in a Tamera Alexander book: great sense of place, multi-layered characters, and a romantic plot that kept me up way too late. This post-Civil war novel is a terrific story by one of the top authors out there."
~Colleen Coble, author of Tidewater Inn and the Mercy Falls series

"Rich in history, romance, and human drama, To Whisper Her Name is a book to be savored, like a sumptuous Southern banquet. Tamera Alexander's skills as a master storyteller have never been more evident."
~ Robin Lee Hatcher, bestselling author of Beloved and Betrayal

To Whisper Her Name is another compelling novel from the pen of Tamera Alexander, revealing that though times have changed, human emotions and relationships never will. A cast of characters you'll fall in love with, and a beautiful story of redemption and hope.
--Deborah Raney, author of The Face of the Earth and the Hanover Falls Novels

"To Whisper Her Name draws you in on a journey to redemption and love between two people who have suffered deeply from others' judgment. This is a story of love but mostly of God's grace and His ever present hand in restoring the lives of those who seek him. A romance so deeply satisfying, both to my heart and to my soul."
~Christy Jordan, Southern Plate: Classic Comfort Food That Makes Everyone Feel Like Family
