From Library Journal:
Cofounder of Linguateq, Inc. and editor of books like The Future of Software (MIT, 1995), Leebaert (economics and technology, Georgetown) has collected essays by experts that examine the effect of the new technology on the marketplace. His aim was to select essays that "set out to envision the flexibility and expansion of the marketplace over the next decade, some of the instruments to this end, some of the pitfalls, and some of the Questions of how to set price and value upon these changes." The essayists include Stephen D. Crocker, a founder of Cybercash, Inc.; David Braunschvig, managing director at Lazard Freres & Co.; and Les Alberthal, chair of the board and chief executive officer of EDS. Topics range from virtual retailing and financial reporting to security issues and payment systems, as well as the electronic marketplace in historical context and projects for the future. This thought-provoking, scholarly work will be useful supplemental reading for students of business and computer science. For academic collections.?Lucy T. Heckman, St. John's Univ. Lib., Jamaica, NY
