About the Author:
CHRIS RIDDELL is the creator of the Platypus series and has illustrated many other picture books, including Castle Diary: The Journal of Tobias Burgess, Page by Richard Platt, Something Else by Kathryn Cave, and Pirate Diary: The Journal of Jake Carpenter by Richard Platt, which earned Great Britain's coveted Kate Greenaway Medal. He also is a renowned political cartoonist whose work has been featured in The Observer, The Economist, and The Independent. Chris Riddell lives with his family in Brighton, England.

Here, the enthusiastic animal decides to throw a birthday party for his favorite stuffed animal. Together, he and his friend Echidna prepare for the event, donning homemade birthday hats, making a cake, blowing up balloons, and building paper chains. When everything is finally ready, they realize that they have forgotten the guest of honor. Lively, watercolor and black-ink illustrations enhance the accessible story. The white backgrounds and simple lines keep the focus on the characters' antics. Although the plot is slight, children will enjoy this warmhearted tale of good friends sharing a special time.
