Did you know that those aren’t Julia Roberts’ legs on the Pretty Woman poster? In fact, everything from the neck down belongs to model, actress, and body double Shelley Michelle. Do you know who inspired Eric Clapton’s “Layla?” Or the meaning of the “Wilhelm Scream” and how it links Star Wars, Reservoir Dogs, Planet of the Apes, and 57 other films? The Secret History of Entertainment is a collection of little-known stories touching on the strange world of the stars. So if you’d like to know why there are no laughs in The Simpsons or the economics of hiring the Rolling Stones for your next birthday party, dip into this intriguing little book.

About the Author:
David began his career as a freelance writer at NME and Sounds before joining the newly-launched Smash Hits in 1979 as Features Editor. He became Editor in 1981 and Managing Editor in 1983. In 1983 David launched teenage girls magazine Just Seventeen, and then as Editorial Director of EMAP Consumer Magazines subsequently launched Looks in 1984, Q in 1985, More in 1987, Empire in 1988, Mojo in 1997, Heat in 1999 and WORD 2003. He is the only person to have won both the Writer of The Year and also Editor of The Year awards from the Periodical Publishers Association. His broadcasting experience includes a stint as a presenter of the BBC's Whistle Test (including anchoring the BBC's coverage of Live Aid), shows on VH1, BBC London and regular contributions to Radio Four.
Review:
Praise for WORD magazine: 'I can't remember the last time I was so engrossed in a magazine.' Giles Smith 'WORD is the magazine for people who are too old for the NME and too hip for Q.' Mail on Sunday 'WORD rocks!' Dylan Jones 'Unlke most music or entertainment journalism WORD is a magazine for grown-ups.' Newsweek
